Washington, DC – U.S. Senator George Helmy (D-NJ) today issued the below statement:
“I am happy that under the leadership of Senator Schumer, the serious voices in the House and Senate prevailed, allowing us to pass a clean, bipartisan continuing resolution (CR) that will keep the federal government funded for the next 86 days until December 20th, 2024. A government shutdown would have had catastrophic consequences for our military veterans, our seniors, and some of our nation’s most vulnerable communities who rely on the federal government for their daily needs. By passing this CR, we are able to maintain a number of crucial investments that that are vital for constituents in my home state of New Jersey and American families.
“I am hopeful that we can come together before the December 20th deadline to pass a bipartisan, bicameral omnibus bill to fully fund the federal government for the remainder of the 2025 fiscal year. The American people deserve no less.”
